Social Media and Community

July 13th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Made it to the Social Media Club of Phoenix last thursday. I was a bit late so didn’t get a chance to hear much of the opening comments from the summer host, Brian Shaler. Derek Neighbors of Gankplank noteriety gave the evenings presentation and talked about Social Media and Community. His presentation was really good and brought up a lively discussion afterwards. One thing we hit on was how there are a number of very niche groups in Phoenix but only a few that can bring all these groups together.

He omitted Ignite Phoenix from that list and I forgive him for this since we haven’t actually put on an event yet. =)

I hope you didn’t totally let them off the hook, as both of those individuals were talking about presenting at Ignite Phoenix!

I’m sorry I missed SMC this month, just too much going on this week. It’s a good problem to have when Phoenix has so much going on it is hard to keep track.

Jeff, I thought you wrote the post so my brain did a flip when you then commented. :-)

    Who’s the ghost writer @halfacat?

The niche groups should /do hold regular meetings but every quarter or six months or so there should be something big with all involved. Expo big. Chase Field big.

Call it Phoenix Interconnective Exposition - or PIE.

Nope, that was Roger (aka halfacat on Twitter). Roger has a great series of idea posts queued up for this week!

James Britt has also done a guest blog for us, and I hope he does a few more as he sorts out his own Ignite Phoenix talk.

I like your PIE idea! I’m always up for some tasty pie!
